What I do at The Royal College of Ophthalmologists
I head the Quality Improvement (QI) team at the College which supports our members to deliver the high-quality ophthalmology care to patients across the UK.
National Ophthalmology Database
The QI team work to deliver 2 national audits in Cataract Surgery and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) services. These audits allow ophthalmology services to benchmark how they are performing and identify areas in which they can improve patient care
Guidance development
The QI team supports the development of ophthalmic service guidance which advise our members on the best ways to set-up services and make sure they treat patients in a safe way.
Review Service
The QI team delivers the RCOphth Review Service which provides consultancy advice to services across the UK on optimal ways to deliver ophthalmology services. We also provide external opinions on ophthalmology cases and provide advice on remedial training opportunities for ophthalmologists performing below the expected standard.

Who am I?
Before working at the RCOphth I worked at the Royal College of Pathologists supporting their CPD and QI functions. I also used to work in the pharmaceutical sector in drug development and have a background in biochemistry and microbiology.
